A new Boules court has been installed at Mount Anthony. The court is now in full use and is a wonderful addition to life on the estate.
Several residents of our Mount Anthony Estate have been members of parks boules clubs over the years and as this number began to grow the Residents Committee, seeing the positive benefits that participating in the game can bring, decided to look at the possibility of installing a boules court on the Mount Anthony Estate.
After many meetings over 18 months and in a joint effort between The Iveagh Trust and Mount Anthony Residents Committee the work on the boules court was finally finished in early April 2015.
The game of Boules is becoming quite a popular past-time in the public parks around Dublin. It is commonly seen as a “mature persons” sport but in reality it is enjoyed by all ages.
The Boules court has been a great success with Mount Anthony residents. Dublin Petanque (Boules) provided a coaching session with two coaches and have been very helpful in all aspects of organising competitions.
Our first league games have just begun – involving 10 teams of mixed doubles it will take 6 weeks to complete. It is then intended to begin a knock out competition in August and when we feel confident enough, we will begin inviting outside teams for matches on our home ground.
What is most important is that we all enjoy ourselves, meet new friends and neighbours and include as many people as possible in the game.
